Trees - Cool and Warm Colours, Different Shapes, and Cutting Skills

The idea for this project is to work with cool colours and warm colours, different shapes, and using cutting skills. I was inspired by the 'Scotch Tape ATC Card Trees' project at 'Art Projects for Kids'.

These postcards show a range of cutting skills, ranging from easy triangles, squares and rectangles, to more advanced ovals and circles, and then more complex shapes for those who are able to use their scissors more easily.

Cool Colours: the purples, blues and greens of the colour spectrum, associated with water, sky, ice, and cooler temperatures.

Warm colours: the yellows, oranges and reds of the colour spectrum, associated with fire, heat, sun, and warmer temperatures.

For this project you'll need to gather the following materials:
  • Different coloured gummed papers in cool and warm colours
  • A6 white cards (postcard size)
  • Felt-tipped pens, or Sharpies
  • Scissors
Using the pictures above, use your imagination and cut several trees in cool and warm colours, you can even mix them up on your own pictures, using whatever shapes you like!

I'd love to see what you've made, so please add them to my Facebook page for us all to see.

Have fun!
Jane

* PS: I had a slight accident with my little project postcards when I took them out into the garden to take photos - I spilled some of my daughter's fruit juice over a couple of them - arrrgggghh! So I'll have to give you the photos I took last night when they were still ok-looking, until they dry and I can rescue them a bit.

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my new Blog, where I am really looking forward to sharing lots of fun art and craft activities for children, between the ages of 4 and 11.

I also hope to have an After-School Club, in Southampton very soon, and will also be available for Birthday Parties. See the tab above for further information on both of these.

I have a new Facebook page where I'll be sharing photos of the completed activities that I'll be doing with the kids at the Club, and you can follow me on Pinterest, where I have a Board just for Art and Craft Club for Kids.

** For the first project, coming soon, you'll need to gather the following materials:
  • Different coloured gummed papers
  • A6 white cards (postcard size)
  • Felt-tipped pens
  • Scissors
We'll be exploring warm and cool colours, different shapes, and cutting skills.

See you very soon!
Jane
